Ampyx nasutus (DALMAN)

Ordovicium

Zagora, Morocco

Width of the cephalon about 1.6 cm

The mostly blind Trinucleina (Asaphida) contain a group of trilobites with a quite strange appearence. Some of them have a fringe of the cephalon with several rows of small pits. They are regarded to be mood feeder. Others as the bizarre Ampyx wear a long ‚horn‘ and could split up the dense lawns of algae to find its way.
